well now we know where all those passive aggressive sticky notes came from
if the founders can give me a magic gun then it should be fine! but i'm not going to stock a gun in my tool belt okay you guys can calm down i just don't want to have to rely on fire for everything
[For a moment, he smiles, lifting his bottle slightly in her direction before taking a drink. How the hell had the two of them been lucky enough to find each other? But after that moment of indulgence, he lifts an eyebrow her way.]
So what brought all this on, anyways? Did something happen?
[Freya, meet Dante's poker face. It's a very good poker face, and it doesn't falter in the slightest as he takes another drink.
...and then his eyes slide her way, the corner of his mouth turning up in what by this point is probably a very familiar smirk.]
The difference is, I know I'm an arrogant spoiled rich kid to the bone. I don't think I'm better than other people just because I've got money. He does. From the screencaps people sent me, he expects people to do what he wants just because he says so. He got pissed when people dared to question him.
[That's never been Dante. Sure, he's been the arrogant, spoiled rich kid, but he's never been the type to get all haughty and uppity about his social status compared to anyone else. Why does it matter at all?]
that makes sense, i felt the same way after february. you and felicia were able to fight that thing from a distance but i had no choice but to get up close in reach of its claws
that and some places are kind of flammable you know?
[ not to mention. people. ]
felicia's good with knives so that's something but i don't really have anything like that to work with except my tools and those are only so helpful in a fight
what are you going to do about it though? it's not like you can just learn how to use powers like ours
the fact that you’re not a demigod for one and my powers are rare even for us
besides it’s all related to our past lives, right? no one’s ever decided “hey i think i’ll learn some fire magic today” and done it just like that you just wake up with it one day
[Freya rolls her eyes a little, but it's good-natured. She takes a long drink of the cider before answering.]
Yeah. He seemed out on an inquisition to make you look bad. Was askin' me to confirm or deny your weird Retrospec powers. Can't believe I'm sayin' this, but Dante, pretty sure he proved you're the good twin.
Just... when we went to Magatus and helped those wolves, we ended up fighting a lot of monsters. I fought my hardest, but people still ended up getting pretty messed up.
[She takes a sip of her wine.]
There had to have been more I could have done, but I wasn't strong enough.
you can't let the rest of us have one thing can you alright fine go dive off a building and see if that gets you extra superpowers who am i to stop you
[How about they move out of the kitchen? This feels more like a sitting conversation. So Dante will meander toward somewhere cozy to sit before he responds, somewhere the both of them can sit side by side (and he raises his arm to beckon Vera to him, his arm ready to drape over her shoulders if she lets him). Because this... this is a hard reality, one that he still hasn't quite made peace with himself.]
I don't think it matters how strong we get. No matter what we do or how strong we are, we can't control the rest of the world. We can't always be fast enough, or make the right judgment call... there's always gonna be something else.
We're getting stronger, but that just means there are bigger challenges to face.
