Throughout Kingdom Hearts, one of Riku's biggest struggles is in learning to accept the darkness that resides inside of him, and learning how to use it to his own advantage without losing himself to it entirely. While there are a number of different things he can utilize the darkness for, one of the most passive uses is that he can sense the darkness in other people. (Chain of Memories describes it as being like a scent, while most other games seem to ignore that aspect of it.)
As of 10/14, Dante will be regaining this ability, which means that he'll be able to sense the darkness on player characters and notice if people are more affected by it or less, or if someone's heart is struggling with dark feelings ("dark," for the purpose of Kingdom Hearts, referring to negative emotions such as anger, spite, hatred, jealousy, etc. Sadness can make one more susceptible to the darkness, but doesn't seem to be the source of any).
Of course, I don't want Dante to start jumping around metagaming and calling out people for the darkness inside of them without player permission! So this is where you come in. Please c/p the below form and leave me a comment here to let me know if you're all right with Dante being able to sense darkness in your character(s), and how much he'd be able to sense! Feel free to update these comments as often as necessary with new developments, and don't worry--if something's going to go into a heavy discussion about the darkness, I'll still touch base to see if you're okay with it first :) this is mostly for metatext purposes.

While eventually Dante will be at an equal split between light and darkness, there's still enough darkness in his heart right now to be noticeable. However, oddly enough, it doesn't feel like your typical darkness: it's restrained, controlled, a tool for him to use more than it uses him. Even if Dante hasn't realized it yet, he can't be corrupted by darkness any more.AM I OKAY WITH YOUR CHARACTER SENSING THIS DARKNESS IN NARRATIVE TEXT? Absolutely!

So in regards to that, it'd be a very strong, possibly overwhelming? sense of darkness, since that's all that his alter is.

She's got a lot of anger simmering under the surface, but she is so intensely devoted to justice and the right thing i think she'd skew heavily towards light? So I have no idea how to call this. She has severe anger problems, but most of her anger stems from injustice and bad and she is literally impossible to tempt towards doing evil, so... shrug???

There's a good amount in there thanks to the anger and hurt he's carries around, but it's not actually to dangerous levels as his compassion, morals, and natural ability to empathize counterbalances it. If hearts were a spectrum of light and dark, Noah would fall exactly in the middle of the gray zone.

Any flickers of darkness are usually dealt with pretty quick and by dealt with I mean he just lets it go and pretends it never happened.

The little bits of darkness in him is from resentment surrounding his own situation (not living up to his family's expectations, being strongarmed into things he doesn't want, etc), but it's a very small amount of darkness.

ANYTHING ELSE? This question is too long for plurk so I'll ask it here. So in Trails of Cold Steel, arts (magic) are separated into 7 different elements. 4 of them are normally named (fire, wind, water, earth), while the last 3 rarer elements are...not, they're called Time, Space, and Mirage. Space is basically Holy/Light and Mirage is ghosts/paranormal/wtfever - doesn't really matter. Meanwhile Time is relevant since it's actually the stand-in for darkness (cause I guess like darkness, time erodes all or something like that). Its element color is black, a lot of the Time Spells have names like "Demonic Scythe" or "Shadow Blade", can cause rough status effects like trapping you in Nightmares or outright killing you, a bunch of the time-element bosses tend to be undead or demons, and the characters whose innate element is Time tend to be...yeah, they'd score high on the darkness scale in KH (such as a part demon, a child mercenary, the traitor, etc).
My question is, would any spells of this Time Element ping Dante's Darkness sense? I'm completely willing to treat it like it just dark element to make it easier on everyone- but since you're the one playing the sensing guy- I'd like to know your thoughts! Mostly because while Time isn't one of Elliot's innate elements, some of the spells he will gain later on will be Time Element.

If she doesn't have that kind of Persona equipped, he'd still be able to sense darkness, but it'd be two different kinds-- one part being her own, average in nature, and easy to sense. The other part, made up of Thanatos, would somehow feel separate but still connected to her at the same time, and be harder to sense/pinpoint in the midst of all the other Dark affinity Persona she has with her.

WOULD RIKU BE ABLE TO SENSE DARKNESS IN YOUR CHARACTER'S HEART? HOW MUCH? Tatsuo has rage issues he's worked most of his life to control. When he's angry or confused his instinct is to punch something. He really does have this under control for the most part though.
However, he has regained his berserker-state. If certain conditions are met (ie. torture someone he cares about :'D, among other things), Tatsuo loses the restraint he usually shows in a fight and, worse, any reserves against killing people. He can and will remorselessly rampage through whoever gets in his way.

WOULD RIKU BE ABLE TO SENSE DARKNESS IN YOUR CHARACTER'S HEART? HOW MUCH? Yep. There usually isn't much there, but prone to flaring; when Freya gets mad, it runs deep.
And if we're going to get all weird and descriptive with this "sensing and interpreting a concept stuff," I don't know if Dante can smell or sense bubbles of it? Like little intense, but compartmentalized or detached, patches of it. She's inadvertently holding onto experiences from regains, but it has few ways to interact with or be directed at her current life.
Although now that I think about it, he'd probably notice a vein of darkness growing as they talk in the hospital post-Malik kidnapping.
And it started slowly getting better through December, but once Mateus starts it's shit with Pen, it got noticeably worse.

WOULD RIKU BE ABLE TO SENSE DARKNESS IN YOUR CHARACTER'S HEART? HOW MUCH? As of this time, yes! However with Ayano, it's a bit tricky because the darkness isn't neccesarily coming from herself. She's a fairly light filled being. However, Ayano's abilities come from the fact that she has a piece of Medusa living inside of her––a snake. The snakes are essentially beings of darkness that subconsciously want to combine into a new snake queen. So essentially Dante would be able to sense a vague presence of darkness living inside of her.

There's not much darkness there to sense, as she's put a great deal of effort into putting her past behind her, but there are remnants she hasn't fully shaken yet.

Yato has a tendency to fight to solve his problems, but it's more of a natural state of being than a darkness in him lashing out, if that makes sense. His intent is usually not bad?? There might be some suppressed feelings of darkness when he's being forced to do things he finds morally objectionable (e.g. harming innocents), but those will be very rare occasions.

Outwardly, Minato is pretty neutral and tries to keep himself presented that way, but inward he's very negative, mostly tired of everything, with a deep seed of guilt. There's a lot of bitterness and cynicism, and all around flippancy of somebody who doesn't quite care about consequences as much as he should. For him, these are thoughts and emotions that he's conscious of, but they always stay in the background, muted, and he tries not to let them show or act upon them. He almost never looks happy, so all of this might not be a surprise.
