It's cold. There are wolves. Possibly Ragnarok. Found a weird journal talking about Fenrir. Also fire snakes? And fish with arms. Mapping the woods though, and trying to stop wolves from attacking this mountain town. I've got Freya here though, and a bunch of my other friends. It's bearable.
we all split up and somehow all got led back to some abandoned sky lodge. some ghost wolf trapped under a tree gave me pen and vera a key. wolf won't let us leave or go upstairs. big storm's kicked up since then.
i don't like this.
[She won't say it. She is not traumatized. They are valid concerns based on previous experience and data.]
place doesn't have power. all 28 of us and a small zoo crammed in the main room and the kitchen and one bathroom to go around.
we've got food, at least. nothing bad's happened so far other than having nothing to do other than listen to that lot prattle on
zee somehow got a bunch of deliveries to us. sol got me and pen this awful sappy gift.
[A picture of the two dog plushes and the chocolate heart. It's illuminated by the camera's flash, but beyond that, he can tell the room's dark aside from the little glows of other cell phones in the background and the light of a fire place.]
it seems weird that it's already been a year. a lot of stuff's happened but it feels like it's the same too, you know? but i wonder what it would've been like if i'd never gotten any of this, what i'd be doing now
[Honestly... he can't really regret it. For all that Retrospec's fucked with their lives, he's come out of it mostly for the better.]
A while ago, you had tried to answer the room and board ad that Malik had posted to the network. However... he had shown you nothing but hostility... even tormented you, along with me, back in October... and yet, despite all that, you still wanted to help him, wanted to know how he was doing.
Why?
It's probably a strange question coming from someone you haven't seen much of since that time, but I have my reasons.
["Hey, let's go drinking" usually didn't involved roofs. Or, if it did, it usually ended poorly, but this felt too them to turn down. Besides, what did Freya have to be afraid of at this point? Breaking her neck?]
[Okay, maybe that was too morbid of gallows humor. Still, a lot had happened, between February and now, and hell if she wasn't going to commiserate over drinks about it with someone, and talk about stupid shit.]
[And enjoy the spring sun. Recolle felt downright warm compared to the secluded mountain town, and Freya's lounging on a blanket she's spread over a portion of Pen's roof, on the slant facing the back yard. She's even in a t-shirt, despite the lingering chill, showing arms somehow unmarred by the wounds she picked up in Hell Mansion, half of black tattoos on each arm poking out from under each sleeve: one of which looked like a stylized beast skull on her left, and the other (7)... was strange.]
[She figured Dante wouldn't have any issues getting up to her perch.]
[Little does Vera know she's hit something Dante's been consumed by in the past couple months...]
...that's a stupid question, don't answer it
yeah
i think i feel that way a lot
[There's a part of him that wants to just open up and drop all of it... but a larger part holds back. After all, she's brought this up for a reason--what's been on her mind lately?]
i am so sorry this is so late /lies on floor BUT HELLO
[It'll be a little while before Bakhura gets a response. Talking about this is easier with people that have some sort of distance from the situation, but Bakhura...
Well.]
it wasn't him that did all that back in october
malik's an idiot and he makes his own trouble but that doesn't mean he deserves to be living on the street
[She's really glad you took that question back, Dante, because she was about to verbally slap you. You know what she means.]
In the past few months I've become one of the strongest people in maybe the whole world. But when we go out on these stupid fucking excursions for Retrospec People still get hurt. A lot. And there's nothing I can do to stop it.
[Freya would be right. When Dante gets there and sees Freya on the roof, it's a quick jump and a kick off a tree to slide on over to the rooftop, stepping up onto the slant.]
Hey.
[He's come bearing a couple six-packs, some hipster cider and a pack of normal beers. He'll take a moment to set them down carefully, tucked in where they won't fall, and Dante isn't waiting for an invitation before he joins her on the blanket.]
[You know, if this weren't so serious, he'd be tempted to challenge her to see how strong she really is. Is she stronger than he is now? Than Freya? (And how can they even compare themselves, with all the different abilities they're remembering?) But for now, he tucks the thought away.]
sometimes it doesn't even take going out on some excursion for retrospec
sometimes you just fuck up and people get hurt because of it
you'd think with another lifetime of memories behind us, it'd be easier to keep the people around us safe
